They are often associated with military laboratories, private companies, academic or otherwise. Usually this term refers specifically to organizations where they work more multidisciplinary theoretical and intellectual analysis or policy recommendations made. The name comes from the English, the abundance of these institutions in the U.S., and think-tank means.
